Cosmetic Dentist – Procedures They Perform
A cosmetic dentist is a dentist that performs procedures that improve the appearance of the teeth, the gums and the bite of the teeth. There are a number of reasons as to why a person would need a procedure done in their mouth. No matter what the reason is for the mouth issue, there is a procedure that can be done to improve the look of the mouth. The most common procedure that is done is teeth whitening. Whiter teeth give the look of healthy teeth and give the smile a brighter glow. The teeth look well cared for and the procedure only takes a short while to do.
Another common procedure that is done by a cosmetic dentist on people both young and old is braces. When the adult teeth come in and they are not in the position they should be in, braces can be put on the teeth. The braces, over time, will help the teeth to end up in position they need to be in. People typically will wear braces for long periods of time, sometimes up to two years. It can take awhile to get the teeth in their proper position but once the braces come off, the effect will be straight teeth and well worth the wait.
Less common procedures that are performed by a cosmetic dentist are tooth reshaping and bonding. Tooth reshaping is the grinding down of a tooth into a shape that is more natural for the tooth. Some teeth are too large, others are pointy and some overcrowd the tooth next to it. By grinding down and reshaping the tooth, that tooth will fit in with the rest in a more natural way and take pressure off of the rest of the teeth.
Bonding is the opposite of tooth reshaping. Bonding is where a cosmetic dentist will add enamel like substance to the tooth and shape it in a natural way. Teeth that are broken or that are too small can benefit from this procedure and can end up with natural looking teeth. There are many procedures that a cosmetic dentist can perform and they all will improve the overall look of the teeth, gums or the bite of the mouth. There are many issues that a mouth can have but these issues do not have to be lived with. There is help available and a better smile can be achieved.
